Become a Volunteer

Today more than ever, girls are looking for role-models to help them become women of courage, confidence, and character.  By becoming a Girl Scout volunteer, you have the opportunity to be this person to girls in your community.  Being a volunteer with us allows you to share your talents and interests in a safe and fun environment.  Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons has flexible options to meet your needs—whether it is an hour or a year we have a place for you!

Special Considerations Prior to Application

If you meet any of the three conditions below, you are automatically ineligible to become a volunteer with Girl Scouts—Dakota Horizons. Please do not apply if you meet any of these conditions:

  • Any felony offense, regardless of type
  • Currently arrested or have an outstanding warrant
  • Any convictions related to child abuse, neglect or endangerment

 

Complete the following steps to start your volunteer experience!

1. Become a registered member of Girl Scouts
All volunteers are required to be registered members of Girl Scouts of the USA.  The cost is $15 for one year and is renewed annually.  Financial aid is available for those who qualify.
2. Complete a Volunteer Application
If you would prefer to print and mail one in, please use the form here.   Starting January 1, 2015 GSDH released a new volunteer application.  Currently approved volunteers will not need to reapply.
3. Complete a Background Check
Volunteer candidates will complete a pre-paid online background check through GSDH.  This is a requirement for all volunteer candidates to complete a background check with GSDH.

Leader’s License: Are you a new leader in fall 2014 or later? If so, you have the option to earn a Leader’s License!
The Leader’s License which is a small recognition for completing all the necessary requirements for becoming a
