Girl Scout Named VFW’s Scout of the Year

Lorisa Schoenbeck, a senior at Webster High School, was honored as the VFW’s Scout of the Year on October 5th in Chamberlain, SD.

This award is open to members of a Boy or Girl Scout Troop, Venturing Crew, or a Sea Scout Ship. Girl Scout candidates must have received the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve, as well as demonstrated exemplary citizenship in school, Scouting and community.

“Girl Scouts has been a huge part of my life. Starting as a kindergartener and now being a senior; it has taught me many life skills and shaped the person I am today. The experiences I’ve had are irreplaceable. It has expanded my horizons to places I can’t even imagine,” Schoenbeck said.

    Congrats Lorisa! It was great to visit with you at the Convention. It was wonderful to see that you could be the first GIRL Scout to win this award. Congrats Again!! 🙂
